WHERE THERE’S SMOKE – Showreel 2011
I’m a bit busy at the moment with all the success of MARCREA and whatnot, so updates have been slower than I’d like them to be. Today I found the time to dig up a worthwhile showreel for you, though. Have some interesting footage and graphics from “WHERE THERE’S SMOKE”. Lot’s of trendy and edgy images, just what you need if you’re targeting the MTV demographic.

Enough with the playing around. Here comes one of the really big-budget showreels of the year, from none other than The Mill. This is pretty much the edge of what’s possible and stylish, so take a good look and enjoy these perfect visuals.

Swedish studio Upper First is back with a brand new showreel and it is even more impressive than their 2009 debut. The 3D-animation and motion graphics are superb and the art-direction finds the perfect balance between commercial viability and cheeky freshness. I’m looking forward to see more of their work, it’s always inspiring.

KGB AMSTERDAM SHOWREEL 2009
Having liberal access to recreational drugs can influence the style of an artist. KREATIVE GRAFIK BURO sent in their showreel hot from the streets of Amsterdam and you will notice a different vibe from the common clean and sometimes boring trends in motion graphics. Light one up and enjoy.

The showreel of Scandinavian studio Thank You starts slow but get’s intense fast. It also answers the question of who did the neat visuals for much of the Adobe brand. Cool stuff indeed.

Videodrome Reel 2009
“Good Artists Borrow, Great Artists Steal” – the guys at Videodrome have apparently taken Picasso’s famous words to heart and I couldn’ help the feeling that I’ve seen many scenes in this showreel somewhere else before. It’s all original work though and the art direction and execution is beautiful. They clearly have the potential to become great artists.

This showreel from animation & effects studio Sparkle* features some interesting fluid and particle simulation works. While not everything in this reel is high end the sims are worth watching and there is obvious potential for greatness if the circumstances are right. And by circumstances I mean budgets.

The Twelve’s showreel is very sparse but it’s immediately evident that this studio in Paris is filled with seasoned veterans. They do the whole set of digital media production, including art direction, video, photography, graphic and web design, 3D and motion design. After watching this I’m looking forward to their future work as I’m pretty sure they’ll come up with a longer showreel in 2011.
