Phil Shoebottom 2009 showreel

Phil Shoebottom’s showreel is like every animators dream come true:
Fighter jets battling over cities and in the mountains? Check! Racecars battling in cities filled with explosives? Check! Robots battling in a friendly neighbourhood? Check!
These are the projects almost everyone I know has at one point dreamt of realizing and I can’t help but feel a bit jealous here. Do yourself a favour and watch Phil’s reel, you will be entertained.

Enough with the cutesy-artsy showreels! Dstrukt takes his viewers to the dark side in a disturbing realm of explosive and evocative imagery. Christopher Hewitt from London shows not only great craftsmanship but fantastic direction and my only wish is that it was longer.

Another entry in the line of “quirky” showreels is James Wignall’s 2008 Mutand Hands video. James is a freelance art-director, animator and overall visual talent based in London. His high-profile clients like Nike, Sony and the BBC are a testament to his skill and professionalism. His reel does a great job of showing his immense creativity. I really love the glimpses of his dark British humor that turns lovable cute characters into menacing beasts.

If you ever wondered what VFX can do for your productions, look no further. Mathieu Chardonnet has a whole lot of complex digital effects to show off and gives an idea what could be achieved in 2008. Physics and simulation are the areas that take motion graphics to the next level and make a striking difference. As a technical director Mathieu takes care of bringing a real-world feeling to out-of-this-world scenes, and he does a great job.
