“Hi, my name is Claudio and I do animation.”

… and that pretty much sums it up. It’s very impressive work for high-profile clients, all the while blurring the line between hand-drawn and digital. Definitely a showreel to watch for anyone interested in the fine are of animation.

Alex Donne-Johnson, a director/designer based in London, sent us his highly enjoyable showreel which will satisfy any immediate craving for motion graphics. He does a lot more, though and checking out his website is really worth it.

Although I have a strong urge to not show any reels containing the Inception or the Tron theme I’m making an exception for the showreel Dan Warder sent us. He’s a senior FX Technical Director and you are very likely to have seen quite a bit of his work if you’ve been to the cinema in recent years. Amazing stuff all around an he makes it look so simple.

Real VFX will always have a special place in my heart. The complexity involved in making fantastic visions a reality can hardly be overestimated and it is always a pleasure to watch a compressed collection of impressive CGI-shots. Martin Gunnarsson delivers a neat overview of his work at Mainframe with just enough behind the scenes footage to keep things interesting.

Enough with the playing around. Here comes one of the really big-budget showreels of the year, from none other than The Mill. This is pretty much the edge of what’s possible and stylish, so take a good look and enjoy these perfect visuals.

We are all used to spectacular motion graphics and digital effects, but the most powerful tool in any video production pipeline is color grading. Simona Harrison is a true master in this field and her reel will blow you away with it’s variety.

Stuart Paciej from London delivers some powerful stuff in his 2011 showreel. Variety is king here and his work even contains a special treat: a new and impressive way to visualize webdesign with motion graphics. Watching this showreel gave me about a dozen or so new ideas; thanks for that, Stuart.

What do motion graphics with a distinct feminine touch look like? If you have been asking yourself this pressing question look no further than Carys Banks’ showreel. In her own words:

“Im a 20 year old student studying Visual Effects and Motion Graphics in Glamorgan Artium. Im in my 3rd year and will graduating in a few months. Im really enjoy creating hand crafted designs for my work, this then allowed me to fuse together a lot of different media in my work.”

If that is not potential I don’t know what is.

Ian Hubert has one of the ugliest homepages I have ever seen. His VFX-work, however, is a completely different story. It’s a true labor of love and very impressive. Most surprisingly, all 3D-elements were created with Blender, the open source 3D-animation kit you can download right here. I have never seen a better example of the artist doing the work, and not the tool.
