STRICTLY SHOWREELS

Joachim_Ljunggren_2012

The allrounder strikes again! Joachim Ljunggren is a one man motion graphics powerhouse, his showreel tells the whole story. 3D, 2D, it just doesn’t matter, he even comes up with the concepts. It doesn’t always take a whole studio to create great visuals.

Chimera, a Sweden-based creative studio focusing on motion graphics and illustration, provides some rock-solid works and plenty of great ideas in it’s 2011 showreel. This is really one to look into for inspiration.

Goodmotion_2011

After many individual artists it’s time to watch some high-end stuff again. I never cease to be amazed by the sheer number of international studios I never heard of, pumping out incredible visuals I’ve never seen before. Take Goodmotion for example: they are a full-service studio in Stockholm with quite the impressive portfolio and a showreel that is a joy to watch. Not only is the work conceptually beautiful, but also technically sophisticated. I’ve never seen any of it before, but thankfully they sent it in, so now you can enjoy it as much as I did.

I wouldn’t recommend calling oneself a “3D generalist” to anyone, but Mikael Pettersén from Sweden follows through with an impressive demoreel. The range and level of skills he shows off is quite astonishing.

Linus Lundin sent us his latest showreel and it is even better than his 2009 entry.  Here’s what he has to say:

“I’m a dedicated motion designer who constantly craves new knowledge and strive to make my work better each time I tackle a project. After spending every waking hour studying as part of the Motion Design program at Hyper Island in 2009, I went to work at Postpanic in Amsterdam before returning to Sweden to begin freelancing.”

Swedish studio Upper First is back with a brand new showreel and it is even more impressive than their 2009 debut. The 3D-animation and motion graphics are superb and the art-direction finds the perfect balance between commercial viability and cheeky freshness. I’m looking forward to see more of their work, it’s always inspiring.

Swedish full-service studio Brokendoll delivers a strong entry in the field of large-scope showreels. They excel in all fields, from animation to video-production. It’s a great showreel and really shows of the variety and quality of the studio’s work.

Looking at the work of Johannes Matsson you wouldn’t guess that he’s a 20 year old newbie in the world of motion-graphics and 3D animation. He’s looking for freelance jobs so go ahead and grab him while he’s fresh!

Elias Widerdal sent in this extremely short but promising showreel. He’s another talented alumni of the Hyper Island motion graphic design school and just finished his half-year intership at +1 in Amsterdam. Now he’s back in Sweden and looking for freelance-work and watching his reel I’m sure he’ll find enough.
