David Lewandowsky from Los Angeles has no problem of finding high-profile clients. His work is flawless and shows as much attention to detail as it does creative variety. While not as evocative as some of the recent entries here his showreel is a prime example of the high standards in modern motion graphics.

Dstrukt 2008 showreel

05
Jun
2010

Enough with the cutesy-artsy showreels! Dstrukt takes his viewers to the dark side in a disturbing realm of explosive and evocative imagery. Christopher Hewitt from London shows not only great craftsmanship but fantastic direction and my only wish is that it was longer.

Another entry in the line of “quirky” showreels is James Wignall’s 2008 Mutand Hands video. James is a freelance art-director, animator and overall visual talent based in London. His high-profile clients like Nike, Sony and the BBC are a testament to his skill and professionalism. His reel does a great job of showing his immense creativity. I really love the glimpses of his dark British humor that turns lovable cute characters into menacing beasts.

Julien Taillez is a motion-designer and art-director from Paris, France. While nothing in his 2010 showreel struck me as particularly outstanding it is the overall fidelity and attention to detail that makes it special. It’s this kind of craftsmanship that sets professionals apart. It also makes this showreel a pleasure to watch.

Returning to best-of-the-industry work, here is Fraser Davidson’s 2009 showreel. Fraser is a senior animator and designer at Mainframe, London creating TV adverts, music videos and channel branding. His clients include high-profile brands like Sony, MTV, BBC, Nike & Guinness.

Every once in a while we like to mix things up a little. While we have plenty of superb professional showreels in here we are also on the lookout for young talent with great potential.

Dono & Sozap from France caught our attention with their beautiful little demoreel. While some small parts are godawful the larger part of the reel is inspired and well executed. It’s all still rough around the edges but one can spot the diamond inside.

FEEDMEE SHOWREEL 2010

13
May
2010

FEEDMEE, another studio from Germany, enters with an impressive showreel for 2010. While not as stylized as some of the other contenders it scores big with variety and high-profile projects.

FEEDMEE specializes in broadcast design, motion graphics, content and CI solutions. Other fields of activity include event and print media design and an Interactive Department developing cross-media web applications.

Look what was in the postbox! Barbecue, a post-production studio from Frankfurt, Germany, sent in their 2009 showreel. While we’ve seen our fair share of high-quality works so far this showreel ranks amoung the best — it’s quite a ride. Or as Rüdiger Chmielus from Barbecue puts it: “We don’t do annoying rubbish.”

True to their German pedigree most of Barbecue’s works revolve around the automobile industry. The reel is full of great visuals, but what really makes it stand out is the unbelievable sound-design. You really want to crank up your speakers for this one.

Another great talent from Sweden, Göran Forsling had his hands in some of the most successful cgi-driven campaings of the recent years. His showreel is a testament to his many talents which range from photorealistic vfx to cute character animation.
