Chris Caliman showreel 2011
Oh German cinema, why are you so hilariously depressing? I could write whole essays on this topic, but Chris Caliman saves me the work with his 2011 director showreel. It starts with an old dog being shot and it ends on it as well. You couldn’t make this up. It’s beautiful work though and has some lighter hearted parts as well, so enjoy it and don’t start thinking too deeply about the meaning … of everything!

B-REEL are keeping it real with their new showreel. Sorry, but I couldn’t help it. This international hybrid production company specializes in interactive media as well as the accompanying asset-production and their projects are quite awe-inspiring. Expect big clients and amazing visual-effects. Of note are their well-known interactive projects which exemplify a trend I’ve been expecting for a long time: high-quality film-production and interactive media are starting to converge to allow high-quality interactive experiences.

Phoric Reel 2010
After the motion graphics galore of the recent weeks it is about time to watch a showreel without VFX and CGI. Filmmaker and photographer Ed Burnett provides a beautiful collection of his works from 2010 and I couldn’t help but feel refreshed after all the digital images I’ve seen recently.

Jeff Desom 2009 showreel
Jeff Deson’s 2009 showreel is really special. While it looks very low-fi on first glance it actually contains some highly elaborate effects. But even more inspiring is the great humor and the creativity permeating the whole reel. The fact that Jeff is from Luxembourg might have to do something with it. I wonder if there are any other showreels out there from this small European country. I can only highly recommend this one if you want to at least have a little chuckle.

Now here is something you don’t see often: a showreel strictly for film/video-production. No motion-graphics, no cgi, just straight footage. And what footage it is! Flatlight Films from Finland have created the best showreel for film/video I have seen by now. If you need some inspiration this is definitely one to watch.
