The best thing about editing showreels is the great editing, obviously. Chris Wong has some very nice direction and editing work to show and he set it beautifully to the music of his choice. Cool work, indeed.

Graphics – in motion. Matthew James from Canada delivers the almost perfect definition of motion graphics in this extremely short and concise showreel. It’s oozing quality and I wish it was longer, but we will just have to enjoy it while it lasts.

What makes a good showreel? Kyle Richtsfeld covers the basics almost perfectly: great variety, quality execution and fitting soundtrack. Almost all the basic motion graphics classics are in here and everything has good art direction. With this kind of demoreel an artist can’t go wrong.

Kevin Airgid, owner of small but well-established Airgid Media Inc. in Canada, sent in this equally small showreel. It’s interesting because it almost exclusively features online-projects. Kevin used some inspired editing to smoothly show off his studio’s web design work, which is something we are always especially on the lookout for.

In graphic design less can be more. Andrew Newby from Canada seems to follow this philosophy in his work for diverse clients like Coca Cola, Amnesty International or Showtime and its cult program “Dexter”. In the last case he really can live out his preference for clear, simple layouts that he also shows in his webdesign work. This is another entry in the “how do I show off webdesign-work in a showreel” category and worth watching for anyone with a similar task.

Marc Coleran’s interface design reel is one of the great classics of showreels. I think anyone interested in motion graphics should have seen it. His work is used in blockbusters like “Deja Vu”, “The Island” and “Mission Impossible 3″.

Marc has moved on to a full time software developer position at Gridiron Software where he, obviously, designs interfaces.
