R James Healy is the true ‘3D generalist’, specialising in visual effects, specifically [technical] animation and anything that defies easy categorisation. The quality of his work shows that someone with an overview of the whole process can deliver great results. I’ve never been a believer in extreme specialization, it’s nice to have a showreel to support this stance.

Arioko, a motion graphics artists and TD from beautiful Paris, released his super-cool 2013 showreel and it’s a real looker. If RealFlow and Krakatoa are your weapons of choice this is a must-watch.

Yes, I got an opinion about that: this is one hell of a showreel for a kid. Joe, a 17 year old motion graphics designer from Australia just upped this. I guess he’ll be going places soon enough.

Gender issues in the motion graphics industry - where do you even start? There are far too few women in the digital creative field on any level and one must wonder why that is. In light of this I’m always especially happy to post great showreels from female artists like the one you have before you. Enjoy!

It’s been a while since I last posted a fresh showreel, but I’ve got an inbox full of amazing stuff and I’ll try to pick up some speed again. For starters enjoy this extremely well done motion graphics showreel by Alex Donne Johnson from London.

Dimitri Guedes from the French part of Canada sent us this very, very pretty showreel. It features one of the coolest remixes of California Soul I’ve heard, but that’s not the only reason you should watch this. It’s really quite the smooth video.

As you might or might not know I am a digital media artist myself. This month I am taking part in the 3D art contest at the reddit blender community. If you have a reddit account and think my entry is the best of them, please go over there and give me your upvote, I’d be really, really happy about that. And I promise I’ll post more showreels again, it’s just that I became a father early last month and it takes some time to get used to.

Finally, another super-cool character animation showreel. As it’s from the Netherlands you can expect it to be quite funny, too.

After strictly personal projects yesterday we jump straight to full-on commercial works today. The film department at Craft Worldwide Oslo presents a comprehensive collection of high-end productions in film production, 3D animation and motion graphic design. It’s all superb, just as you’d expect from an international full-service studio.

Pieter de Jong provides another of those few showreels that can stand on their own without anycommercial works. His unique style and obvious talent make this well worth watching. I actually wish this was longer.
