Umbrella Infographics Showreel 2012
Infographics have become a huge trend in recent years, and Umbrella has dedicated a showreel to this very area. It’s a bit light on variety but gives a good overview on the current state of the art when it comes to information visualization. It’s a must-watch for anyone facing a similar task.

New York based design and digital production company Thornberg & Forester have released a brand-new anniversery showreel. Miðstræti Showreel 2012
“Miðstræti” — the name alone would make this showreel worth posting. It also contains lots of competent 3D animation and motion graphics along with a catchy soundtrack, so all ingredients for enjoyment are there. This is also our first entry from Iceland and I doubt we will see too many others following soon. But if you happen to be an artist or part of a studio from Iceland, don’t hesitate to send us your reel.

It should come as no suprise that there’s a whole industry dedicated to producing high-end motion graphics for watches in Switzerland. And yet, I am always baffled by the sheer quality of these incredibly focused animations. But there’s a trend in here, too: these works of art by Swiss motion design studio “le truc” start to explore the world around the luxury-watches and have a bigger scope than just the inner workings and mechanics of the products. Take a look after the jump and see for yourself.

What’s happening in Bollywood? A whole lot apparently: if you would care to take a look at this impressive VFX showreel from Makuta VFX you will see. Makuta is an Indian visual effects studio which is tremendously successful and even opened offices in the US due to increasing demand for their services. This showreels is worth watching for two reasons: a) because the VFX are quite good and the music is catchy and b) because you will see some action sequences that will make your eyes pop (if you don’t watch Bollywood films regularly).

Big budget special effects are the work of large teams made up the very best in the VFX industry. But there are individuals standing out, like Bastiaan Koch, founder and head of Marauder Film. He worked on so many blockbusters you are almost guaranteed to have seen his work. Two weeks ago he released his latest showreel and it feels like a compilation of all the movies I watched for special effects alone. He also won two Oscars for his work so don’t worry about him not getting enough credit for his contributions. It’s amazing stuff all around.

Cinematography showreels always have a special place in my heart. They convey an emotionality that can seldomly be captured by digitally created images. Brain Farm Cinema, a full service cinematography boutique, provides us with an extrordinary entry to our growing collection of showreels. Their claim of putting “a distinct touch on any of your production needs” seems entirely justified. This reel is a strong contender for my favourite reel of this season.
