toxiclibs showreel 2010
Now here’s something completely different: toxiclibs isn’t a studio, it’s an open source library collection for computational design tasks with Java & Processing. “What does that even mean?” you ask, understandably. Well, processing is an open-source graphics tool which is entirely based on programming in the well known Java programming language. While this certainly isn’t for everyone it gives artists with the right skills unbelievable freedom to express ideas and to do pretty much everything they can imagine when commercial packages reach their limits. Toxiclibs extends this freedom by providing convenient libraries to do some of the more complex tasks. The showreel can give you a rough idea of what can be achieved, but it is really only a glimpse of the possibilities.
If you want to know more about processing I can strongly recommend the books Getting Started with Processing: A Hands-on Introduction to Making interaktive Graphics and Processing for Visual Artists: How to Create Expressive Images and Interactive Art
which will give you the neccessary knowledge to start into the wild and complex world of data-visualization.
